Half the Sky is a new documentary series that will be airing on PBS this fall. It is a series which exposes many of the hardships that women still face with respect to freedom, education, healthcare and independence. One of the women featured, Jane Ngoiri, is a Kenyan dressmaker who came from nothing, but with a microloan has changed her life and the lives of her children. She has now been able to send them all to school for the first time. Jane takes used dresses and turns them into children’s clothing.
Ms. Doyle, a woman from Hampton Bay, heard about Jane’s story and rallied her community into action to support her. She collected 150 dresses to send away, including her own wedding dress. With this donation, Jane will have plenty of dresses to keep her busy and her business flourishing for quite some time.
