America

Today, at my new job, we were presented with a proposal to include a new documentary in our programming. It is about the slavery, trafficking and cruelty to women that exists in this modern world and what we can do  to fix it. It is based on the book entitled, Half the Sky. It gives real life stories told from the perspective of some of these women and it really makes the issue potent and real. Reading about their message and seeing some of their videos and the organizations they partner with has really affected me. The celebration of our nation's independence was just a few days ago, and it makes me appreciate even more the country that we live in. I do believe that we can always be better than we are (especially now), but relative to what other people in other countries go through on a day to day basis, we really do have it good. We are so blessed to live here. But, at the same time, it's hard to remember that in the midst of all of our own struggles and political issues that threaten to derail what America stands for. We should do more to make sure that we are standing up for what makes this such a beautiful and wonderful place to live in. We should resist the attack on our freedoms, we should defend what is right and what is sacred and we should be relentless in our struggle to uphold our founding principles so we can remain the example to others and inspire change. http://www.halftheskymovement.org/
